Leaves that had already fallen swirled up into the air with the energy of the wind but quickly died as the air cut off. This particular section of the wood was quiet on this peaceful day, but all that was about to change as the brute moved into position. He bunched his muscles, took three deep breaths, and then flew into the air with his ears back and amber-gold eyes completely focused on the task at hand.
After three large bounds, he pushed at the ground with his paws and flew over a fallen tree log that was covered with moss. He landed gracefully, expertly. He knew he couldn't celebrate too long because the next obstacle was rapidly approaching. A large, grey boulder the shape of a wolf's ear was his goal. The wolf breathed deeply, knowing he would have to execute a perfect turn if he wanted to get through the narrow gap he knew was there on the opposite side of the rock. If he didn't, he'd run nose-first into the boulder. His heart thundered in his ears as he began to turn his shoulders around the stone. Kreios, thinking he should be moving faster, dug his claws deeper into the ground but it had the opposite effect. His paws slipped on the leaves and he was sent spiraling into a nearby tree trunk. With a grunt, he got to his paws and shook the forest debris from his long, grey-and-brown pelt.
Looking at the huge gash he had torn in the blanket of leaves, the brute cursed under his breath. He'd almost made it through his mini-obstacle course without incident. Now he'd either have to start again or call it a day. The brute placed his forelegs on the ground and raised his rump into the air in a long stretch. Then he dug his claws into the ground and stretched his back legs. Kre decided to not try again; he was lucky he hadn't hurt himself on that last run, and he didn't want to push his luck. With winter on its way, he couldn't afford an injury. The brute turned his muzzle in the direction of the Earth pack dens, thinking that he would hunt along the way.

regular, speech, thoughts, other(s) Riversong watched the male from her hiding spot as he ran through the leaves. He had been out here for a while, and it had taken her a bit to understand just what it was that he was doing, but now she thought she had it. It was an obsicale course of sorts, testing agility and speed. Smiling to herself she watched as he tried time after time to make it through the maze that mother nature had created for him. He tried to gain speed, but slipped in the leaves and lost his footing trying to slide through the rock that stood in his path, sending him hurtling into a nearby tree. Riversong held her breath, letting it out, only when she knew that he was alright.
He stood for a moment looking as if he was deciding what to do. Making a reckless decision (something that was very rare for her) Riversong lept from her hiding place in the nearby bushes and began the course herself. Her smooth lethe body moving through it with grace and speed. The fur of her coat glittered and shimmered as she moved, glimmering as if she were sparkling. She lept over the log in a single easy bound and raced toward the boulder that had thrown the male. She was careful to keep her footing while gathering speed along the path rather than at the last moment. As she came to it, spun on her heels and slid through the opening hips first. Her small body making it through the cleft in the rock easiy, and coming out the other side sliding on the leaves. Without stopping, she rolled to her feet, and took the last few hurdles before coming to a stop, panting.
Her mind slowly came back to her and her body froze. She had not stopped to think how the male might react to this. Wether he would tear her apart or beat her. Silently she cursed herself. She sat with her back to him, to afraid of his reaction to turn around....
