Hahah thanks for the advice, I usually do that but... I'm very lazy and it was way faster to use the dodge and burn tool. However I should start using the shades instead of the lazy route, you inspired me a bit more. I also noticed I should be a bit more thorough with my fur detail on the ends.

I use brushes from DA + smudge tool. It's a little bit...cheating, but leaves the fur fluffy like you'd expect it to be. Using the smudge tool means you don't have to fuddle with colors, which is always a plus xD;
